Community Food Box

The Community Food Box is a biweekly, healthy, food program that provides free and sliding scale food bags for single to multiple family households in The Bronx. This program emerged in response to the food insecurity and health disparities that predate but have been exasperated by COVID-19.

Show Up. Show Out.

Help us sustain the work we do. We pay living wages to our contractors, we pay for food, PPE and equipment, we give out more than we can afford to and we continue to stand in the gap to create healthy communities that value and protect Black women, children, teen girls and other MaGes. It’s not easy but we do it proudly, every dollar counts. Consider supporting BFP and our Community Food Box.

Donation funded and run primarily through the contributions and efforts of volunteers, the Community Food Box program gets to the heart of The Black Feminist Project's community oriented origins and objectives by fostering an environment where community members work in service of one another. Local vendors, farms, and food justice initiatives contribute items to help cultivate unique and exciting Food Box experiences.

We ask all of our community members if you can afford to pay for a box that you do. Paid boxes help subsidize free boxes (we call this wealth redistribution). Want to donate a box? There is an option to do so!

Free The People. Free The Land. Free Food.

Food is an important part of our cultural legacies. Inaccessibility to land to grow food has been one of the many ways that power structures maintain power and in our current political climate we have only seen that amplified. Many folks in resilient communities experienced hunger before COVID-19 and the oppressive curfews that have suddenly come into vogue but since both that experience has only been exasperated. The Black Feminist Project understands how important free or affordable access to quality, healthy, sustainable food is at this time has responded by creating the Corona Relief Food Box.

The pay model is equitable: if you can afford a full price box then pay for it and subsidize the cost for another family who cannot. If you wish to donate then do so and if need relief then we’ve got your back. No weird and intrusive vetting questions, no pantry lines. Make a reservation, tell us your family size so we can pack enough food for at least two meals for the size of your family and come at your appointment time to pick up. That’s it!
